Toronto Cares Initiative is run by a 10 member, entirely volunteer, board of directors (plus an Executive Director), with at least ⅓ of its members being recipients of our services, to ensure our clients have a voice in the direction of the organization.
Founder & Executive Director
A single mom of a teenager, with several disabilities and mental health challenges of her own, Sarah founded Toronto Cares in March 2020 during the first lockdown.
Originally from the tiny village of Madoc, Ontario, Sarah moved to Toronto in May of 2010 & has been an active community member ever since.
She has been volunteering since the age of five with Girl Guides of Canada, as well as other organizations and initiatives. Sarah continues to run Toronto Cares, on a volunteer basis, seven days a week.
Her background is in psychology, addictions and special events.
Sarah has dedicated her life to giving back to her community and assisting the most vulnerable members of society.
In May 2023, Sarah stepped down as President of the Board, in order to become the Executive Director of the organization, to oversee a huge Federal Grant.
President
Originally from Weston, now living in the Roncesvalles area of Toronto, Owen was raised by a low-income single mother and is now a father of two.
He's been involved with Toronto Cares since 2020 as a volunteer driver and is affectionately referred to as "Superman" by his fellow board members, since he is always there when help's needed.
Vice President
Born in Vancouver where she attended the University of British Columbia, Sharon earned a BSc in Pharmacy, initially practicing as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting.
Wanting to further her education, she was accepted into the University of Toronto Industrial Pharmacy Residency program which led to employment within the pharmaceutical industry and a permanent move to Toronto.
After several years in the industry, Sharon returned to school to pursue a lifelong interest, attending the Culinary Management program at George Brown College and subsequently worked in several restaurants.
With the birth of her two sons, Sharon chose to focus on raising her family while staying active in Muay Thai boxing, golf, travel and supporting a number of Toronto based charities/non-profits, including Toronto Cares.
Secretary
Originally from Thornhill, Esther currently lives in North York with her partner and 7 year old son.
She has been a part of Toronto Cares almost since the beginning, experiencing all sides of the organization as a volunteer, donor, and recipient as well as being on the board.
Her other time is often spent in a little balloon shop making decor for events.
Treasurer
An Immigrant from India, now settled in Toronto, along with his spouse. Bikash has been acting as Treasurer of Toronto Cares since 2022, managing the accounts and finances of the organization.
He spends his work days conducting audits for various organisations.
Member
A loving mom, wife and successful professional who has resided in Toronto all her life.
Dianne believes that no good deed is ever too small and originally joined Toronto Cares as a volunteer.
She is enthusiastically passionate about volunteering and spends her other free time hiking and enjoying nature.

A Brazilian who has lived in Canada since 2017, Mauricio has assisted Toronto Cares with everything from driving trucks to packing and sorting donations, since the beginning of the pandemic.
When he's not working at Microsoft, Mauricio enjoys spending time with his beautiful daughter.
Member
Married to his wife Stephanie for 32 years with two children, Connor and Chelsea, Jeff has been involved with assisting Toronto Cares since 2022.
Although he spent most of his career in the corporate world, but left that field in 2021.
In addition to being an active board member, Jeff now owns the COBS Bread bakery in Liberty Village, Toronto, which donates bread and pastries daily to local organizations.

Originally from Ukraine, currently residing in North York, Irina's professional background is in corporate buying/private brand development/distribution/management.
After a car accident suddenly left her disabled 10 years ago, she turned to her community for support.
Using her lived experience to service community with advocacy, empowerment and connection to resources, Irina demonstrates her compassion through support of orphanages in Ghana as the cofounder of PJF Worldwide.

A single mom living in Toronto, Denisse began as a recipient of Toronto Cares in 2020, as the pandemic first hit, and quickly became a volunteer on the administrative team. After a short break from volunteering, she rejoined the board in 2023.
Denisse has an extensive background in office administration, and loves giving back to her community.
She spends her free time playing with her kids & emotional support dog.

Born and raised in Richmond Hill, Jason has been involved with Toronto Cares as a volunteer driver since 2020, then joined the board in 2023.
He has been volunteering at various organizations for almost a decade and has always had a passion for helping others.
Outside of his extensive volunteer work, Jason spends his days working in sales at West Fraser and playing hockey as often as he can.
